Top Weld Training is a fast-growing skilled trades training institute focused on providing hands-on, high-quality education to individuals seeking careers in welding and the trades. We are expanding our training programs to include Carpentry and are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Carpentry Instructor to lead and inspire the next generation of trades professionals.
Position Overview
The Carpentry Instructor will be responsible for delivering both theory and hands-on instruction in foundational and advanced carpentry techniques. This includes training students in construction methods, blueprint reading, framing, finishing, cabinetry, safety practices, and industry standards as outlined by Ontario’s apprenticeship and trade curriculum.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver in-person instruction aligned with Top Weld’s standards and Ontario curriculum
- Teach fundamental and advanced carpentry skills, including layout, framing, installation, and finishing techniques
- Demonstrate proper and safe use of tools, machinery, and building materials
- Read and explain basic blueprints and building plans to students
- Evaluate student performance through practical assessments and feedback
- Promote safety, discipline, and cleanliness in the shop environment
- Assist in developing lesson plans, hands-on activities, and instructional materials
- Support career development and job readiness by sharing industry insights and best practices
- Maintain shop tools and equipment in working condition
General Responsibilities
- Follow all company safety guidelines and CWB certification standards, using proper PPE at all times.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, ensuring tools and equipment are in excellent working condition.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet project specifications and deadlines.
Qualifications
- Red Seal Certification in Carpentry (or equivalent recognized credential in Ontario)
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on carpentry experience in residential or commercial settings
- Teaching or mentorship experience preferred
- Strong understanding of Ontario Building Code and safety regulations
- Effective communication, leadership, and organizational skills
- Ability to engage and motivate learners from diverse backgrounds
- Comfortable using basic digital tools (email, Word, PowerPoint) for instruction and administration
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle for travel to training locations or site visits, if required
